Maybe you're out of work and looking for employment. Maybe you're still employed but worried about layoffs and cutbacks. Maybe you just have some time to kill and would like to make a few extra bucks on your own. Whatever the reason, affiliate marketing is a great way to start earning extra money at home.
As an affiliate marketer, you're not concerned about things like order processing, shipping or even stocking inventory. You simply promote other peoples products and services, if they make that purchase, you get a commission. The affiliate commission on a product can range from 5% all the way up to 50% - sometimes even more.

So how to do you break in to the affiliate marketing business? Surprisingly, it's probably easier then you think.
In the past being an affiliate marketer meant writing computer code to build your web site, or paying big bucks to hire someone to do it for you. This could cost you hundreds of dollars and take weeks, maybe even months for your site to be ready.
Today there are so many low cost (even free), options available for someone who is ready to begin their career. My personal favorite way is to set up a WordPress blog (it's free) and create my affiliate site using that platform. With this method, you'll purchase a domain name (about /year) and obtain web hosting (this typically costs under /month) to deploy your blog.
There are also many online services that will allow you to create a blog or website and promote affiliate products. You can create s Squidoo page (free) or a HubPage (also free) and promote your products that way. The major drawback to these free services is that you don't actually own the content you're creating. Should the site choose to shutdown, you'll lose your work.
Whatever platform you choose, once your site is running, you'll need to spend some time each day to update it and add relevant content. The good news is, the more time you put in, the more money you'll generate.
