Is Free Web Hosting All it is Cracked Up to Be?

Nowadays, it seems that everybody's favorite word is free. People will flock to anywhere this word is spoken, but so often it means something completely different. It generally means nothing. When you hear the word free, it generally means that you are getting nothing. However, is this also the case with Web hosting? Isn't it true that all Web hosting is the same, so free hosting is just as good as any other? Well, this is most definitely not the case. Free Web hosting often has a set of limitations that keeps you from taking your website to the next level. For instance, free Web hosting often will not allow you to put add revenue banners on your website! But then again, the hosting is free, so what do you have to lose? Well, let's take a look at some of the major pros and cons of free Web hosting, and see just how useful, or useless, it is.

First, free hosting is free. Don't cut this short. After all, free is free. You are getting a spot on the World Wide Web for zero dollars per month. And while you might have limitations, you still need to consider the fact that you might not need more expensive hosting. For example, if you and your friends have a small video game clan, and you want to make a simple website for it, free Web hosting is perfect. Why? Well, because it is only intended for a small group of people, your friends will know the url, so you won't have to rely on search engines, and you aren't expecting to make revenue off of adds anyway. It is simple, easy, and yes, you guessed it - it is free!

On the other hand though, free Web hosting can only do so much. If you want to develop a simple marketing website where you do affiliate hosting, you will probably not find free hosting that can accomplish this to any effect. You will most likely drown in your zero traffic hits, and stay there for eternity based on a funky url that you cannot control. So, pretty much, a free Web host will allow you to do a few things, but anything else will require you to fork over some change.

Free hosting might have its place, but it is a small one. You will need to pay if you want to do much with your website. But, like you read before, free Web hosting can help you out if your needs are very local and small.

  1. Definitely true. Free hosting means nothing. Instead of choosing a free hosting it is far better to choose a cheap shared hosting. I too initially hosted my website with shared hosting and later upgraded to dedicated hosting. I got best shared hosting and dedicated hosting plans from www.Thewebpole.com at low cost with 24/7 customer support.
