The Steps of Getting a Perfect Website For Your Business

In the recent years websites have become a necessity to almost everyone. Companies, businesses, individuals, even school kids have created personal websites or blogs.

What you need to consider before creating a website, are things such the cost, maintenance, content, web host, and purpose of the website. You'll need to ask questions like, what I do want the visitor to do when they're on your website, do you want to just provide the information about your business or do you want to them make a purchase, or maybe you're looking for their contact details.

Web Hosting

Firstly, you'll need to register a domain name which is roughly around for one year. Ideally you should purchase at least two years or more because that will benefit on search engines. Next would be a "cheap" hosting solution, getting this step right can save you from hours, even days of stress. The key here is RESEARCH, read people's posts in forums and blogs and see what's good and bad out there. I would spend half of day if not more doing this. Companies that have been around for 5+ years are usually pretty safe, but never pay for one full year the first time, and if they don't the monthly option then I would look elsewhere, unless it's recommendation from your friend.

So now you have all the technical things sorted out and you wonder what's next. Your website! Depending on your level of interest and knowledge in web design, you could buy a software package like Dreamweaver and try to do it yourself. That can be fairly time-consuming and could end up costing you more in the long run. The alternative option is to find a professional freelance web designer to do this for you. A professionally designed website should last you about 2+ years without any major changes. Have a look around on net, there's a lot good web designers out there, so finding someone that fits your budget shouldn't be difficult. Since most web designers have a portfolio site, you can see what they have done and whether or not his design style fits in with your business. An easy way to find out whether he/she is the right person for the job is to compare his work with your competitors' website. A good web designer should be able to do well in both design and coding, and some will also have knowledge of Search Engine Optimization. If possible try to hire someone who has some SEO knowledge, and let them know your preferred search keywords before he/she start building the website. A website that built with SEO in mind can greatly benefit from free search engine traffic. One thing to remember is always find out exactly what you will get in the end before starting the project.

Not all industries can see huge benefits in having a website, some can benefit more than the others but having one will certainly give you an edge over your competitors who doesn't, even if it just has your logo and contact details on there!

Website Hosting - What You Need to Keep in Mind

How would you have reacted if somebody had suggested imprinting your visiting card with a web address a few decades back? Incredulous for sure!

However, times have changed rapidly. Today, a web address is a business norm. In fact, individuals also prefer to go online to express themselves. This applies to guardians of our freedom of expression viz., newspapers and news channels. All of them appear to believe in physical, electronic and online / internet media. This is made possible through our friendly web host - a service provider who takes care of the formalities of porting your sites online. The process is called website hosting.

Web Hosting

A web host is all the more necessary for businesses since the days of "brick and mortar" businesses are passé. eCommerce sites are quite popular as are online shopping portals. However, these sites deal with sensitive information. Therefore, any business or organization opting to board the internet needs a web hosting service that needs to be selected very carefully to maximize the benefits and minimize the risks.

The first key aspect to gauge when selecting a web hosting service is its uptime. Businesses can't afford to experience high downtime since it will affect their online sales and damage their credibility with their customers. Hence, a website hosting provider that can guarantee higher levels of uptime is always in demand. The cost may be a little higher for the service. However, it is more than worth it.

The second aspect to consider is security. Does the web hosting service provide thorough security that is backed by fully secure solutions like firewalls and anti-viruses to safeguard and protect confidential information? This crucial question needs to be evaluated before you select a web host. To help make up your mind, you can check with other customers and also read reviews along side client testimonials for the web host provider. If they are favorable, then it might be a good decision to go for it.

Don't forget bandwidth when are deciding on a good web hosting service. The provider may offer umpteen features to lure you. However, it is of no use if there isn't enough bandwidth or the speed and strength of servers is not sufficient. Customers don't like websites constantly timing our or reporting strange errors. Therefore, make sure you are selecting a web hosting service that provides you excellent bandwidth.

Central to your decision is price or cost. Contrary to popular perception, price doesn't necessarily mean the lowest quoted rate in the market. In fact, if you were to go for the lowest quite, you might find yourself cheated of key website hosting features and elements unless you are really careful. When you evaluate price, check if it offers "bang for the buck". It might be a little higher than that quoted by other providers; however, if it provides "best-in-class" features like excellent uptime, total security and fast bandwidth, then it might be well worth paying for!

Of course, this is not an exhaustive list and contains some key aspects that you need to inspect before choosing the best website hosting service for you.

Cheap Dedicated Web Hosting - You Need to Choose the Best

While opting for cheap hosting services, you will be looking for companies that provide cheaper prices with a relatively decent customer service and a good uptime. But the art of finding such a server isn't easy. There are many factors which determine the effectiveness of a cheap server and they are discussed below.

First of all, you have to know what a dedicated server is. Normally, when you create a website and host it, they get hosted on the shared server. This shared server is a place where millions of websites are hosted. Once a website gets reputable number of hits, the shared servers won't be enough to hold the traffic of that site. Hence, the site will crash. At this point, you will have to move to a dedicated server which is nothing but a server which is dedicated to a particular website, you website in this case.

Web Hosting

Normally, for a website which has just moved from Shared servers, the traffic won't be too great. So, buying a sophisticated web server is totally unnecessary. There are loads of service providers who offer you cheap hosting facilities with increased benefits.

The first thing which you need to do while choosing a cheap server is avoiding middle man. A middle man is a term used for a company that pretends to own a server but actually buys space from another company and uses that space to host your data. So, once you have any problem with the server, you will contact the middle man and the middle man should contact the mother company. This will obviously take large time and that will lead to downtime for your site.

The other thing which people talk about is leasing the servers. You can lease the server if your company is still in its initial stages and still looking to get a hold of the business. Also, while leasing you can stop the service whenever you want and there will be no need to make yearly payments. But for a larger company which is certain about its future, buying is the best option. When you buy a server, you can make a onetime payment which will be cheaper than the costly monthly installments.

The World Wide Web is here to stay and without a doubt it is growing at a rapid pace! So, in order to give yourself an edge over others, you must buy a dedicated server. Just make sure you don't get fooled by false promises.

Advantages of Using cPanel

It has become such a common term that many people think "cPanel" is a generic name for any Web site control interface. In fact, it's a company name and a commercial product that hosting firms buy to give customers an easy way to maintain their sites and, not incidentally, reduce the workload for their customer service representatives and technicians. Customers can now do just about any routine maintenance and site customizing, on their own schedule and their "own dime."

The cPanel developers also provide a control panel for Web hosts and server administrators, WebHost Manager (WHM), that makes life easier for them, too. Although the present discussion is about cPanel, the fact that the company behind it also does great work on "the other side of the street" should be corroboration of the firm's know-how. The cPanel software provides customers with powerful tools to perform essential tasks, and does so in a simple, straightforward, quick and dependable way.

Web Hosting

For all user levels

Designed from the ground up for website owners, cPanel employs a graphical user interface (GUI) to present a range of options for site maintenance, design and operation. You can upload, manage, download or delete web pages and all supporting files and media, as well as install all the Web-based programs you like, such as blogs, shopping carts, forums and chat rooms. You are also given a robust set of tools for creating and customizing email accounts, and tools to back up data, protect your bandwidth and content from abuse, keep statistics on visitors and use the comprehensive error reporting to fix broken links and other issues.

One major, time-consuming part of your job as a Web site owner/manager is producing, uploading and editing web pages. However, cPanel provides several different options for handling content. You can easily upload, download and manage Web pages with cPanel's File Manager, or use the Web Disk tool for drag-and-drop simplicity. In addition, you have the "usual suspects" of the file transfer variety available to you - FTP, SFTP and FTPS. You can even create additional FTP accounts, for managers, employees and/or trusted vendors and customers.

Customize with cPanel

By making a few selections in the cPanel interface and responding to a few questions and prompts, you can install and use all the popular Web applications like phpBB forums, osCommerce storefronts and WordPress. The cPanel Backup Wizard makes backing up data a snap, and built-in virus protection enhances your security even further. Security is a major cPanel feature, as it helps you establish password-protected areas, prevent hackers from helping themselves to your bandwidth and automatically ban users whose password is used by another person to enter restricted areas.

The Web traffic information cPanel collects can really help you with your search engine optimization (SEO) efforts. Data can be supplied by three different statistics tools, and comprehensive logs - errors occurring with visitors, tracking of bandwidth, FTP access data - are easily obtained through cPanel, as well. Ease of use is not the only attraction of cPanel, however, as professional Web developers use it, also, for checking a server's PHP setup, customizing error pages, installing such things as Ruby Gems and determining with great precision (and predictability) how content is presented.

An e-mail monster

One of the most exciting things for new Web site owners is seeing their company name as a domain, and having it on all their e-mail accounts. Even when you get over that first thrill, e-mail is a hugely important part of your business and cPanel knows it. That's why it supports all the standard mail protocols - IMAP, POP and SMTP - with and without encryption with SSL (Secure Socket Layer).

The cPanel includes a "webmail" tool that enables account holders to access their mail from anywhere, at any time, with an Internet-connected computer and Web browser. Users will find cPanel tools for setting up e-mail forwarding, reducing spam with SpamAssassin and BoxTrapper, filtering e-mails in nearly infinite ways and creating mailing lists.

A champion "no brainer"

The cPanel firm's experts are continuously revising, refining and expanding the interface for increased functionality, while continuing to maintain cPanel's simplicity and easy use. This results in an always-evolving, intuitive product that enables and empowers Web owners to develop and maintain sites easily. No more waiting for that additional e-mail account to be set up or a password to be changed. You will be doing these things yourself, and won't need to contact your hosting provider unless you have a true emergency (very rare). Fact is, cPanel use has reduced host company incoming calls dramatically, since it first increased local control.

A Getting Started Wizard from cPanel can save you a lot of time in initial setup, as it will guide you through a basic account setup and configuration. You can also avail yourself of built-in video tutorials, on-screen help files, step-by-step guides, troubleshooting tips and the cPanel forums (with over half a million posts on every imaginable topic). Finally, if you run a hosting company and want to see if it's something you should offer your customers, you can try it out by logging into the demo cPanel account at the company's Web site (cpanel.net).

WordPress Themes or Bespoke Web Design?

WordPress is currently the most popular publishing platform in the world with over 25 million people choosing to use it! The question is 'why is it so popular..?' The answer is not that difficult because, it's so easy to use you could teach your granny to use it! In-fact your granny could download it and have a professional looking business up and running in no time at all!

Great, let's do it gran we pay , sort out some hosting and where do we go now... well... hmm... er? There are so many free templates and pre-made themes on specialist websites like Themeforest. These are great for start-up companies to use but does that make it the right thing to do?

Web Hosting

"Hey I'm on a budget so it's cost effective to use a pre-made template! Of course, using something of the shelf is a no-brainer because you get off the ground and your up and running with the big boys, shoulder to shoulder, doing business but, actually hang on! Looking at all these other websites... hmm! They look familiar? I know where I've seen that before, I was going to buy that one because it look different and individual... eh, what the!"

Ok, sorry about the third person in my head there! The fact of the matter is that pre-made templates are not unique and the danger is that you get diluted in an already (over 25 million!) saturated world of WordPress websites! Although they are cost effective, using them will become frustrating because of the inflexibility of using them. My guess is that you'll buy one to do one thing and another to do something else and then another..... the dilution starts!

Let's make no bones about it, I love WordPress because it's full on and I only have to use what I need! The core is like having 2000bhp engine under the bonnet! But, you can drive it like a first time driver or an F1 super star! This is ultimately how time and money can be saved, through bespoke development of only what is needed!

Bespoke means unique and flexible and that's something you don't get with pre-made templates.

Having a website that is not only unique but easy to use is going to save you time when it comes to adding your content. We design only what is necessary and what you want or need. With a pre made theme you might not like a certain bit of functionality, you want the logo moved in the header, you want to change something but you can't, it's the way the theme was designed and thats it! Also, you might have to figure out where to put special bits of content if it's not well documented in the 30 page manual!

So be careful about using pre made themes, although you'll end up spending less money the time you might waste in the end will make up for that and actually cost you more!

What are your thoughts, do you use them, have you had any frustrations with them?

Cheap Web Traffic Really Matters

If cheap web hosting really matters, then cheap web traffic also matters. Since the main goal is to reduce expenses, then cutting cost through buying cheap web traffic can also help. Since a lot of companies are spending their resources just to get the amount of traffic they think is ideal for their companies, then reducing its cost will surely save a lot of bulks. So how can you really say that you got the cheapest offer anyways? SEO results or effects could really take some time. You cannot see it as soon as the procedure starts. Sometimes it may take weeks, months, or even years depending on the variables.

Cheap web traffic has a lot of method. One way to gain more traffic is article marketing. When you write good content and provide useful information, then it has a greater possibility of being read and visiting your link rather than writing pure advertisements. Readers are more concerned about the facts that they will get and it is more convincing if you give the right information they needed. Another way to market the site is forum posting and blog commenting wherein you leave your site's link after your comment or post in forums.

Web Hosting

You need to put in mind that Google Page Rank is a very special algorithm. There are certain tricks in winning the spot in search results for a certain keywords. Return visitors weigh more than first time visitors. Inbound links from a high PR site also weigh more than inbound links from a low PR site. So if you are going to market your link, then be sure to put it on a high Page Rank website. If the offer you encounter knows all these things then you can be sure that they will do their best for your site to climb at the top. If the quality is good for a reasonable price, then you can say that it is cheap web traffic and it really matters.

Setting Up Your Own Website

If you're planning to create a website, either for business of personal journal, make sure to read the following tips and tricks that can help you in realizing your dreams.

In these time and age, with thousands of websites spurting everyday, you need to find ways and means to promote your own else people will just disregard it as another clutter in the World Wide Web.

Web Hosting

Tip 1

Assuming that you've created a website that tackles love, friendship and romance, the first thing you have to do is to make the over all look of the website related to your topic.

If you don't have skills in altering and designing websites then don't fret, just hire a web designer or choose a web host that have pre-designed website templates.

Tip 2

Make sure that the content of your website are presentable, enjoyable and informative.

Websites about love and romances are so extensive that you have to be certain that what everything you're offering to readers are fresh, informative and easy to understand tips and advices. If you're the only writer in your website then this may be a challenge for you.

Here's where you start looking for an article writer, a freelance writer or even a ghostwriter that will help you in your website.

An article writer is pretty much hired to create articles for a certain product or website. A freelance writer does the same thing. Most of article writers and freelancers are still credited for their work at the websites information page or at the bottom of the articles.

Ghost writers are professional writers that are hired to create stories and web content articles. The main difference of ghostwriters with other writers is the fact that since they are "ghost" they are not credited for their work as often as possible.

They are employed by website owners to write articles, stories and even books regularly for the website to gain more visitors.

Make it a point that all the written articles submitted by ghostwriters or article writers are in accordance with the theme of your website. Ask them to use clever titles, easy to read and understand words and entertaining articles. If it's possible, let them highlight keywords or phrases that can be generated by major search engines.

Tip 3

Enlist your website to different directories that can help improve your website ranking. There are different kinds of directories that you can choose from.

Just make sure that you place you website on the correct category. So if you have the love and romance website, put it under love categories, romance categories, relationship categories and so on and so forth. Directories will gain you backlinks. Backlinks are great because they can directly prompt viewers and readers to your website.

Furthermore, you or your ghostwriter can write articles for different article directories.

Article directories will ask you (or your ghostwriter) to submit short articles about your topic and in return will allow you to either advertise your website or put a link of your site on the directory.

How to Find the Best Web Hosting for Your New Website

If you've done any research at all, then you know that finding the best web hosting for your money can be quite a challenge. The industry is full of competition, with more web hosting companies popping up all the time. So it can be a time-consuming task to find the best web hosting for your particular needs. However, there are a few things you should keep in mind as you research the different options.

Know Your Needs

Web Hosting

First, you should have a good understanding of what your particular needs are in terms of web hosting, for your site right now and also for what you might need in the near future. You want to be sure that the hosting plans you're looking into have all the features that you'll need to allow you to structure your website like you want to and you want to be sure that it leaves you some room to grow as you build out your site over time or add new features.

Either you or your webmaster should determine what requirements you'll need from a web host. The good thing is that once you establish your needs, it will help you narrow down the choices to those that are best suited for your new website.

Typical Price Range

The typical price range for affordable hosting that meets most people's needs is about - per month. Anything more than that and you should definitely compare the options to see what you're getting for the additional cost. Of course, if you're purchasing a dedicated server or some other high-end setup, the cost is substantially more.

Single Domain or Multiple Domains

For most people, a single-domain or reseller account is usually more than enough. A single-domain account will allow you to host one website and is usually the least expensive type of account.

For a few dollars more, coming in closer to the range, you can get a reseller account which will allow you to host multiple sites, each having their own login info and control panel. In fact, you could even provide web space to friends, family and other customers for a fee, hence the name "reseller account". Even though that's the case, many people use reseller account solely for themselves as an easy and affordable way to manage multiple sites.

Understand the Features

You should also compare the different features for different hosting plans. For instance, some plans offer more disk space or bandwidth than others and some services are set up for scripting and databases while others might not. That's why it's important to understand what your needs are and then compare that to the features offered by each hosting company.

You'll also need to keep in mind the type of server they offer and what software it runs (Linux or Windows are the typical options). This is because often times, software will only run on one type of system or another.

Finally, one more important consideration to keep in mind is the level of support the company provides. Ideally, they will have some form of 24 hour support, either via phone, email, or online chat.

Once you know what your hosting needs are and can compare the features and support offered by different hosting companies, you should be able to quickly narrow down the possible choices to a handful that meet your needs. Then, if all things are equal, you can base your decision on price. After all, as long as they provide good service and support and fit your needs and budget, then that company will probably provide the best web hosting for your new site.

How To Change Your Web Hosting Provider - Step-By-Step Guide

Whether you are disgruntled with the level of service your current web hosting provider, or you have discovered a provider that offers you better deal, or your online business has simply outgrown your present provider, any reason is as good as any for changing your web hosting provider. The only concern is how to switch your web site from a web host to another in the right way and no or as little aggravations as possible.

The very first step in changing web hosting providers is to find one that meets all your requirements. Although you should have some experience in finding one from your last search, let's still review the main issues when choosing one. Take a good look at the disk space and bandwidth your future plan will provide you. As you web site's bandwidth requirements may grow in time, purchase a little more than you need and take a good look at the costs of the bandwidth for exceeding your traffic quota. Also make sure that the new web hosting provider will offer you the same tools and installed software as your previous old one. Ask the technical support if the software or scripts in the offer are already installed and configured. It would be a bad experience to find out after you have completely migrated your web site that not everything is working properly just because the not all the software in the offer comes pre-installed and you should have requested its activation. All these are very important and ensure you don't have to go through this whole procedure of changing web hosts real soon in the future.

Sign up for the new hosting plan. It sounds obvious, but the thing you should look after is sign up for the new one while still having about two weeks until your old hosting plan expires. This will give you time to react if anything goes wrong during the migration of your web site and will smoothen the transition for your visitors or customers, your business enjoying as much continuity as possible.

Update your backup copy of your web site - you do have backups don't you? If not this is a very good place to start with. Best thing would be to have a backup copy of your web site burned onto a compact disk CD and store this CD into a safe location. Your backup will include the entire web site: files, images, directory structure, databases.

Upload your web site to the web servers of your new web hosting provider.

Now it is testing time. Most web hosting providers will offer you the possibility to preview your web site before it goes live. Use this feature to test if your web site looks good and its functionalities are all intact on your new web server.

Continue by configuring your existing e-mail accounts on the new web server. It would be a good idea to write down the new POP3 and SMTP you will be using soon.

If you haven't changed your web site design with this move, it will be a good idea to put mark the web pages on your new web server just o differentiate from the old one. In this way you will be able to tell when your DNS information is updated, which is the next step of migrating your web site.

It's time to change your name server. As anxious you might be to transfer, it would be a very good thing to announce your visitors and customers about the imminent change of web hosting providers you are making and to apologize for any possible inconveniences of downtime your web site might encounter. I don't need to tell you how important this announcement is for the overall image of your web business.

Now you can announce your registrar to change your DNS information, or if you can change it yourself, go ahead and do it.

All you have to do now is wait for the DNS information to propagate across all the DNS servers. This entire process could take as much as 72 hours to complete, but it is possible to start seeing the first results after a couple of hours.

Final step would be to update the e-mail client you are using to match the new POP3 and SMTP settings.

You have successfully changed your web hosting provider. Good luck with the new one!

Truth Behind Unlimited Web Hosting

In today's competitive market you will find hundreds of web hosting companies and dominate their competitor they provide hosting space at very cheap rate. Now the most common plan that you will find in every web hosting company is "Unlimited Web Hosting". As its name demonstrates that this plan provides unlimited disk space but still there are lots of other things that you need to check before sign up. I am very much interested in unlimited web hosting term and suddenly few questions arise in my mind and to make all my doubt clear I contacted their support team.

I asked following question to their support team and take a look at the answer.

Web Hosting

(1) Do you really offer unlimited web space or is there any limitation?

Currently all of our hosting plans offer unlimited disk space. Although the word "unlimited" means to have no restriction, the server on which the data is being hosted cannot deal with such terms and needs a numerical number in its place. That is why certain limits are set, even to unlimited features.

My View: This is Okay.

(2) How many domains I can host on single account?

Unlimited, our all plans offer unlimited domain hosting. So, you can host unlimited domains on your single account.

My View: This feature I like, but the problem is with IP. All your domains hosted on single account share same IP. So from SEO point of view this will affect your natural search engine ranking. This is where you need to think about.

(3) How many databases do you offer?

There is no restriction in creating database. Actually you can create as many databases as you want.

My View: Great.

(4) Is there any limitation on database size?

Yes, different plans have different database size. Our basic plan offers 2 GB of database size. So you can create multiple databases but database size must not exceed 2 GB space.

My View: Very bad, this is what I don't like. If they limit database size to certain amount then you cannot host a big database drive website. Static sites with hundreds of pages require only KB of disk space. Even if you host 20 static website with 100 of pages it will hardly use few GB of the disk space.

So, before sign-up for any unlimited plans you need to take care about database size they offer, if you only want to host static site then unlimited hosting plan is best but if you want to host large Database driven website then it really matter.

I want to recommend one web hosting directory where you will find different web hosting companies with their plan details, price, reviews and ratings. Kindly visit our Web Hosting Directory to find perfect hosting company.

Happy Hosting!

Best Web Hosting Company - When Your Business Matters to You

If you want to grow your business, it does help to have an attractive website design and great content, but don't overlook the importance of a web hosting company. Not a lot of people have come to appreciate the role of a web hosting, but as you know it works just like a car battery, without it you can't go anywhere.

Web hosting is what will put your website on the virtual environment for everybody to see. Ultimately, therefore, you would want only the best hosting for your online business because you would not want to entrust your business to a company that does not have a 99.50% uptime guarantee at the very least. Or one that does not provide unlimited bandwidth and disk space, or provide efficient technical support. Technical support should be available via phone or live chat, 24/7 because you would need your web hosting to be able to attend to your website problems at once. Delayed responses can be critical to your business. You'd also want your hosting service provider to offer cPanel for your utmost convenience. When you want your online business to succeed, you have to be choosy when it comes to your web hosting.

Web Hosting

The best hosting is not necessarily the most expensive. In like manner, the company that offers the highest fee may not be the best web hosting, either. When deciding whether the hosting is good or not, therefore, the price should not be considered a paramount factor.

With thousands of options, it can be an overwhelming experience to choose a web host but you can make it less so by going over web hosting review sites first. Look for a third party review site in particular in order to get an honest and factual review.

Apparently, there are review sites that are more credible than the others, and these are what you should be on the lookout for. Credible web reviewers typically provide you with two review formats - tabular and narrative. The tabular review format enables you to see at a glance the companies you would want to engage the services of. The table shows a comparison of the different hosting companies and their basic features. Narrative reviews are more detailed and encompassing, and further supported by customer testimonials. Make sure that the review focuses on the key elements of web hosting, particularly the uptime percentage, bandwidth, technical assistance, and control panel.

You should visit more than just one review site, never mind if that happens to be the most credible review site on the net. A single review cannot be conclusive. You have to take time to go over several sites so you can see if the data you have gathered from one particular review site are consistent with those from other sites. When you already have a web hosting in mind, make sure that you make a random search of customer testimonials for that particular hosting because customer testimonials are based on actual experiences and these should help you arrive at a wise decision.

Differences Between Unix and Windows Web Hosting

When you are trying to decide what web hosting company to go with you may see that one of the hosting companies is offering Unix web hosting and another is offering Windows web hosting. There will even be times when you can choose one or the other from the same web hosting company. So what are the differences between Unix and Windows and which should you be using?

First of all it is important to note that it does not matter which type of web hosting you decide to go with when creating your site as the actual code used to create your website is essentially the same. The differences between Unix and Windows are actually differences that are more behind closed doors if you will. Here are some major differences between the two:

Web Hosting

o    Software: This is the biggest difference between the two. Because Windows is a Microsoft product it will stand to reason that the Windows web hosting will run Microsoft software such as VBScript scripting languages and Microsoft Access databases. Unix on the other hand will not be compatible with these types of software. If your website will require specific Widows or Microsoft applications it will better for you to go with a Windows hosting service.

o    Reliability: While both Unix and Windows web hosting are indeed very reliable, Unix does hold the slight advantage in this category and tends to spend less time 'down'.

o    Cost: A Unix web host will use any of a number of 'flavors' of Unix like Linux or FreeBSD. These operating systems are free and help to keep costs down. Windows on the other hand sees their server software cost thousands of dollars and this can mean more money out of your pocket as well.

o    Bug fixes: Because Unix is run on free servers that mean that anyone has access to the full source code. While that may not sound like a good thing, when it comes to getting a bug fixed it is indeed a good thing as many individuals spend a good deal of time writing new code for Unix to help make it better and fix bugs. Windows though is again owned by Microsoft and because of that only Microsoft people have access to the source code which leads you to rely solely on Microsoft to fix any problems that arise.

So which server operating system is right for you?

Before you make your final decision on whether to go with Unix web hosting or Windows web hosting you first have to figure out what features you will be running on your website. If you are going to use a bunch of Microsoft applications and software then you will of course need to go with a Windows web hosting service. But if your website will not be utilizing those types of programs then going with a Unix web host is going to leave you with more options and more than likely a better price as well. So the correct answer to the questions it, it is all up to you and your website's needs.
